An important letter from Javier Palomarez, President and CEO of The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce about the mentoring partnership between USHCC and Boys and Girls Club of America.

With the growing mentoring needs of Hispanic youth in mind, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce are pleased to partner to offer bright and promising futures for Hispanic youth through the mentoring programs and services provided by Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide.

The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce continues to develop effective youth development tools and resources, such as BizFest, which are necessary for Hispanic youth to succeed in the business world. Similarly, Boys & Girls Clubs have invested in the expansion of mentoring programs and services for Hispanic Club members. Boys & Girls Clubs currently serve 3.9 million young people at some 4,000 local Clubs. Approximately 23 percent of Boys & Girls Club members are Hispanic youth ages 6-18.

Effective mentoring has been proven to positively impact high school graduation rates, juvenile crime prevention, teen motherhood, and healthy habits. Mentors are caring individuals who, along with parents or guardians, provide young people with emotional support, counsel, friendship, reinforcement, and a constructive example in a structured and trusting relationship. A mentor’s personal attention and guidance can truly open new doors of hope and opportunity for youth.

Wherever mentors serve, their extraordinarily generous contribution of time and service is vital to the success of Boys & Girls Clubs where some of the most influential role models are Club volunteers. With that in mind, we are committed to bring mentors to more Hispanic youth by connecting Boys & Girls Clubs with our Hispanic chamber and business leaders – strengthening their ties in the local community. Together, we can have a lasting impact on the lives of the young people who need us most.

There are more ways than one to make a difference. Please look for additional information about this exciting partnership and how you can volunteer or contact your local Boys & Girls Club directly. You have the power to make a difference!
