The American Red Cross wants you and your family to be prepared before a tornado strikes. Please share this email with your friends, family and co-workers.

Prepare NOW for a tornado – do not wait until the storm is imminent.

· Where is your “safe room”? This should be in the basement or an interior room on the lowest floor, without any windows.

· If you do not have a basement, consider the bathtub, with blankets or pillows stacked over you.

· If you live in an apartment building or assisted living facility, ask your landlord or manager where the safe room is.

Tornado Watch – conditions are right for a tornado. Listen for local weather updates on the radio or television.

Tornado Warning – a tornado has been sighted. Take cover immediately.

If you are in your car:

· You cannot “out-run” a tornado, but you may be able to avoid it by turning in right-angles from the direction of the storm.

· If you are caught in the storm, stay in your car – seatbelt fastened, car in “park,” ignition running, head below windows. Keep the ignition running so that the airbags can deploy.

· Exit your car only if you can get noticeably lower than the level of the roadway; lie in that area and cover your head with your hands.

If you are caught outside when the tornado hits:

· Seek shelter immediately in a basement or study building, or get into a vehicle – seatbelt fastened, car in “park,” ignition running, head below windows.

If a tornado does strike you, your family, friends or co-workers, know that the Red Cross will be there.Thank you for your continued generous support of your American Red Cross!
