On March 25th, the President welcomed 28 new citizens, hailing from 26 countries, as our newest Americans during a naturalization ceremony held at the White House. At the ceremony, the President reiterated his commitment to commonsense immigration reform and noted the progress being made in Congress to overhaul our nation’s immigration system.
Additionally, this month, President Obama met with business leaders to discuss his proposal for commonsense immigration reform. Following the meeting, National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling outlined the economic case for commonsense immigration reform and shared important facts about the ways in which immigrants are helping to grow the economy, create jobs, spur American innovation, and increase U.S. trade and exports.
