Dear Friend,
When several states along the northeastern coast of the United States were hit earlier this week by Superstorm Sandy, we knew the impact would devastate businesses, schools, and most tragically, families. Nearly 100 Americans were killed, and millions are still without life’s necessities. Those impacted by the storm are seeing fuel and food shortages, millions are still without power, and the total economic damage has been estimated at $30 to $50 billion. During this difficult time, the USHCC family sends our thoughts and prayers to those in the affected region.
As communities strive to rebuild and Americans look for the resources they need, it is time to do all we can to lend support. Fortunately, a large number of the USHCC’s corporate partners have recognized these varied needs and mobilized their considerable assets to assist.
Many of our corporate partners have responded by donating funds to the storm’s victims, including donations of over $1 million each by JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Toyota, Bank of America, Coca-Cola and Citigroup. Other partners have responded by donating their own in-kind resources: General Motors has provided pick-up trucks and cargo vans, FedEx will provide transportation & logistics support, Johnson & Johnson has provided 500,000 hygiene kits, and wireless carriers, like AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon, are working together to ensure continued communications. Many others have answered the call, and we are grateful for their generous contributions.
We applaud the storm relief efforts of our corporate partners, and we thank them for responding in a timely manner to help those in need.
Sincerely,
Javier Palomarez
