In August of 2009 Tom started PDT Architects, LLC.  As the Majority Member his responsibilities included marketing efforts and management of the office and staff.  He is also manager-in-charge of all projects including coordinating and scheduling all work. Tom serves as a Principal in Charge and demonstrates a ‘hands-on’ approach to team management that provides proper guidance throughout every project.  

He has an active role in the development of concepts and plays a key role in maintaining progress and schedules. He participates in all areas of project planning, evaluation, design and construction and oversees each project through its completion.It is his key principal involvement which encourages collaboration between experienced professionals and diligent apprentices that drives the firm’s success. Tom is a member of the Dayton Hispanic Chamber.

 

Background information on Thomas Fernandez’s Hispanic Roots:

 Emilio Fernandez, father of Emilio Thomas Fernandez, was born in Luarca, Asturias, Spain. After the death of his father Emilio, along with his mother and brother, immigrated to Havana.

 When Castro took over Cuba Emilio was asked to head the architecture team of the Department of Public Works. Emilio realized that the democratic government was a farce, and that behind all was lurking a communist tyranny.  Sensing that his family was in danger, he began planning an escape to America.  In December, 1960 the escape was possible.  He arrived in Miami penniless and he could not speak Enhe office and staff.  He is also manager-in-charge of all projects including coordinating and scheduling all work. Tom serves as a Principal in Charge and demonstrates a ‘hands-on’ approach to team management that provides proper guidance throughout every project.  

As the months passed, Emilio and his wife decided to move north to Cincinnati, Ohio.  This was the place where Emilio felt he would be free to start all over again his quest for an architectural expression all his own.    

 Thomas Fernandez’s Career

 SFA ARCHITECTS, INC.

 In 1967, Emilio Fernandez established SFA Architects, Inc. In 1986 Emilio Thomas (Tom) Fernandez joined the firm following in his fathers footsteps to become a second generation owner of SFA Architects.  He became the driving force behind SFA’s innovative design studio and was responsible for focusing the creative efforts of the staff to develop the unique design solutions that would represent each of its clients’ vision. 

 Tom is a registered architect graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Architecture. As principal of SFA, he was responsible for developing project designs and contract documents as well as contract bidding, client communication, coordinating project scheduling, budgeting and estimating, updating and revising office master speanager-in-charge of all projects including coordinating and scheduling all work. Tom serves as a Principal in Charge and demonstrates a ‘hands-on’ approach to team management that provides proper guidance throughout every project.

He serves on various boards and committees to include: PIA Steering Committee for The Sisters of Notri Dame de Namur as well as Several Business Advisory Committees for the City of Cincinnati. He is Co-Chairman of the Immigration Task force for Cincinnati’s Mayer John Cranley. In addition his past volunteer efforts have centered around educational initaves performed for various school districts.

 Having more than 34 years experience in leadership, facility planning, design and construction Tom has gained a wealth of experience delivering projects on short deadlines and tight budgets.
